first_imgStay on target The 11 Weirdest ‘Scooby-Doo’ Guest StarsGive Some Damn Fine Gifts With This Twin Peaks Gift Guide We knew who killed Laura Palmer, but the next biggest mystery about Twin Peaks was when the third season was going to premiere. Now we have that answer.Showtime announced Monday at the Television Critics Association (TCA) conference that Twin Peaks will be premiering on May 21 with a two-hour premiere. This season, which takes place 26 years after it was canceled in 1991, will feature 18 episodes. Showtime subscribers will be able to watch episodes three and four directly following the premiere digitally.Showtime president David Nevins, who made the announcement, said that he and Showtime programming president Gary Levine have already seen the entire series, and gave it a seal of approval.“This version of Twin Peaks is the pure heroin version of David Lynch, and I’m excited to be putting that out,” Nevins said. Like its previous seasons, it “rewards close watching.”The third season of the cult TV show was announced in October 2014, so we’ve been waiting a while for it. Even then, it still seemed uncertain, thanks to some behind-the-scenes drama with writer, director, and co-creator David Lynch, who announced he was leaving over money issues. Luckily, a month later, he was back on board.Details have been scarce since then. There was a rumor that the season would premiere at Sundance, which takes place from Jan. 19-29 this year, but co-creator Mark Frost crushed those hopes with a tweet.center_img Just to quash a silly rumor going around: Twin Peaks is NOT, repeat, NOT going to be shown at Sundance this year.— Mark Frost (@mfrost11) January 3, 2017The internet rumor mill also had an idea for a premiere date after images of a leaked Showtime promotional calendar showed that Twin Peaks was featured in May.But remember, and this is the bad news (or good news depending on how you look at it): these 18 episodes will be it. The current plan is for it to be a “closed-ended, one-time event,” according to Nevins. Those 18 episodes might be enough to put some of our open-ended questions to bed. Trust me, for those who haven’t seen the original series, there are a lot of them. Considering that this is Lynch, though, and complicated thematic-heavy stories are his strength and passion, we’re just hoping to see how Annie’s doing at the very least.last_img read more
