Lawrence and June Williams of Itaki, Mazaruni River were on Thursday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Anne McLennan on allegations that they had trafficked several Venezuelan women for sexual exploitation.The Williamses were not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that between April 1 and April 30, 2018, June Williams recruited, transported and harboured three Venezuelan nationals for the purpose of sexual exploitation; while her husband Lawrence was accused of doing the same between November 1 and December 31, 2017.In addition, businesswoman Arita Gould, called “Molly,” was arraigned with allegedly trafficking a Venezuelan woman between May 1 and May 31, 2018 at Puruni Landing.Shem, too, was not required to enter a plea, and was remanded to prison.The trio was unrepresented by legal counsels. They will make their next court appearance on July 5, 2018.

The Province and Government of Canada have issued the Environmental Assessment Certificates for LNG Canada in the District of Kitimat.The approval includes conditions that LNG Canada must meet in order to build the export facility. This is the first LNG project in B.C. to receive approval under the new substituted environmental assessment process. The substituted process means that the Environmental Assessment Office conducts a single process that meets all federal and provincial requirements.There are 24 conditions that the Province has placed on the project and the Federal Government has issued another 50 conditions Shell Canada must meet in order to build the facility.- Advertisement -The $23 billion to $36 billion LNG Canada Export Terminal project includes a facility with LNG storage, power generation, a marine terminal and LNG shipping by carriers. The project would produce 26 million tonnes of LNG per year at full build-out. The project will employ between 4,500 and 7,500 people during construction and between 450 and 800 people duringoperations.Shell Canada is expected to make a final investment decision on the project in 2016.Advertisement
