The Bulldogs then depart for the Naval Academy’s home tournament playing the hosts on Sept. 9 before a neutral match against Towson on Sept. 11. Drake, the defending 2015 Missouri Valley Conference regular season champions, will play 11 road contests and seven home contests at Cownie Soccer Complex. The team will prepare for the fall campaign with two home exhibition matches – Northern Illinois on August 10 and Minnesota on Aug. 13. The Bulldogs open the regular season with three consecutive road matches, beginning at North Dakota State on Aug. 19 followed by games at UIC on Aug. 26 and Wisconsin on Aug. 28. The 2016 MVC Championship starts Oct. 30 with on-campus matches followed by the remaining rounds hosted by the Redbirds in Normal, Ill., Nov. 4-6, 2016. DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women’s soccer program will have a challenging 18-game schedule for the 2016 season, ninth-year head coach Lindsey Horner announced Wednesday, June 8. Drake then returns to Cownie to face Western Illinois on Sept. 14 before road matches at South Dakota State on Sept. 18 and UMKC on Sept. 21. The Bulldogs then begin their MVC regular season title defense as they welcome the 2015 MVC Tournament champions, Evansville, on Sept. 25. Drake closes the month of September with a trip to Indiana State on Sept. 30. “Our 2016 schedule is certainly going to test us, but we should be able to use our non-conferences games to grow and prepare for the MVC season,” said Horner. “Seven of our first ten regular season games are away from home, so that in and of itself is going to be a challenge. Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota and Wisconsin will be games that our players will look forward to by nature of their conference and past success but Milwaukee, Navy, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and UMKC should be great matchups as well.” “We are excited to open our MVC season with Evansville, who won the MVC Tournament last year and will be contenders for this year’s regular season title so three very important points will be on the line right away. Every league game will be important for us and it could again go down to the last game with Loyola to determine seeding for the MVC Tournament. We have ended each other’s seasons since they joined the league so our game has evolved it to a bit of a rivalry. Overall, we have many games that could be very close and we are looking forward to getting back together in August to see where we are at as a team.”Print Friendly Versionlast_img read more
